Purchasing luxury watches in eBay has long been a problematic experience. Sometimes you feel like you are playing a game of roulette, especially when spending huge amounts of money and you are unsure whether they are authentic or otherwise.

eBay recognizes this, and last year, launched Authenticity Guarantee in the United States. This turned out a spike in sales of high value watches in the country. It was then launched in Japan, and now, the UK.

Authenticity Guarantee will be available in the UK and the authentication process will be handled by Stoll & Co, a service business in the US that opened a UK subsidiary this year. Authentication will be done to luxury watches that cost £2000 or more.

When you purchase a watch that qualifies as such, the seller ships it to the Authentication Centre for inspection. This invloves the following:

- The authenticator confirms that the watch is consistent with the listing. They will be given a unique barcode and an eBay embedded NFC chip will be attached for confidence and resale value

- The authenticators verify multiple inspection points, including the crown, bezel, dial, case, clasp/buckle, hands, end links, and reference number.
