Royal Mail lost items

Hi all,

Just a quick topic to see what everyone else's experience with Royal Mail has been of late? When the takeover occurred a year or two ago there was a noticeable reduction in the amount of items getting lost in the post. However within the past few months I'm noticing that I'm having to deal with more lost item claims. Worse still is that Royal Mail's new online claims submission seems to be hopeless. I've had no response to two claims I have submitted in the past month or two...

Is it still possible to make a claim by post and if so is this more likely to result in them actually paying out on items they've lost rather than me being out of pocket? I'm not that pleased with the way things seem to be going..
